Appointment Types

We offer two main types of appointments

• Pre Booked routine appointments
• Emergency and Acute Clinic appointments

If you are late for your appointment you may be asked to book a new appointment.

Pre-Booked Appointments

These are for follow up appointments with the Doctor of your choice, subject to availability, or for NEW problems which are not an acute medical problem.  These appointments will be available up to two weeks inadvance.

Emergency and Acute Clinic Appointments 

If you have an acute medical problem we will attempt to make you an appointment in our on the day Emergency and Acute Clinic. 

Please note you are registered as a patient of the practice , but you have the right to express a preference of which Doctor you see.  However if that doctor is not available due to administration or study leave, you will be offered an appointment with a different doctor.

How To See Your Doctor

To make an appointment, please call at the reception or telephone on 01257 262081.  The receptionist will ask you if your appointment is for a routine appointment  or an emergency/acute medical problem.

Cancelling Appointments

If you are unable to keep an appointment, please ensure you give at least  24 hours notice of cancellation.  You can do this by calling the practice or by using our online form. 

Treatment Room

The Treatment Room is open daily from 9.00 am to 12 noon, Monday to Friday, and is now run by our District Nurses.

Patients are referred here by their GP, or after Hospital treatment for wound dressing, ear syringing, suture removal etc. It does not treat acute casualties, who should attend the A&E at Chorley Hospital.

Home Visits

If you are too ill to come to the surgery or permanently housebound and need a home visit, please telephone 01257 262081 before 10.30 am. 

Please explain to the receptionist what is wrong so that more urgent calls can be seen first.

Please remember that we can see several people at the Surgery in the time it takes to do a home visit.

Test Results

Please call between 11:00 and 15:30 to enquire about your test results as our reception staff will have more time to deal with your request between these times.

Note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.

When you take your test you will be told how long it will be before the results are returned to the practice.

It is your responsibility to check your results and to make an appointment to discuss them with your doctor if your are advised to do so.

Did Not Attend Policy - Introduction

Approximately 150 appointments per month are ‘Did Not Attend’ (DNA), i.e. the patient does not turn up for the appointment and did not contact the surgery in advance to cancel/change the appointment. The effect of DNA's are:

• An increase in the waiting time for appointments
• Frustration for both staff and patients
• A waste of resources

Policy:

If a patient fails to attend a pre-booked appointment with a doctor, practice nurse or health care assistant on two occasions they will receive a formal warning letter. Any further failure to attend an appointment will result in removal from the practice list.

If a patient fails to attend a booked on the day appointment (emergency appointment) they will be removed from the surgery list after only one more DNA.
